Did you know that this type of wine is becoming more and more popular with each passing year? There are many reasons why they have managed to win over the general public and also the most demanding customers: freshness, smoothness, aroma, lightness...

The best French rosé wine is decided in Cannes
Since 2004, the Union des Oenologues de France has been holding a three-day "Mondial du Rosé" in Cannes, where rosé wines from all over the world are tasted anonymously.
The success and recognition of this competition has only grown in recent times. To help us understand this, here are a few facts:
- More than 1,300 samples from over 30 different countries were submitted.
- A carefully selected jury of more than 65 tasters from 18 different nationalities.
- After deliberation, the jury awards two types of distinction: the Mondial du Rosé GOLD medal and the Mondial du Rosé SILVER medal.
- Around 30% of all the wines entered in the competition are awarded a distinction by the experts.
Characteristics of good rosé wines
But what is studied when it comes to knowing whether a rosé is of quality or not? There are several aspects that a good taster has to pay attention to:
- It can range from a pale pink to a reddish or purplish colour. The sight will serve for a first approach to the wine and, in addition, it allows us to know important information about the flavours and aromas that we can find.
- Vintage. Contrary to what may happen with other wines, the general rule for rosé is that "the earlier the better". This means that it should not be consumed more than two years after its harvest, as it could lose its freshness.
- For a rosé wine to be fresh and smooth, its alcohol content must not exceed 13 degrees.
- Place of production. There are regions that are specialists and synonymous with quality, such as Bordeaux (France), California (United States), Provence (Italy) or the north of Spain.
